Fiola Mare Speakeasy in Washington DC

Fiola Mare, proclaimed by Rammy Awards, best new restaurant in Washington DC partners with U-Boat watches for a special evening. With a guest list that occasionally includes the Obama family, Netanyahu, and an endless list of DC’s who’s who, the restaurant is not just known for its fine cuisine. Fiola Mare creates an environment set on its Georgetown shores that overlook the Kennedy Center with evenings perfectly executed by its impeccable staff.

This November night was no different as owner Maria Trabocchi concocted a Speakeasy evening, complimenting the Italian U-Boat watch style. It was personal and classy with a mysterious air of exclusivity and secretiveness. The evening began serendipitously with a London-like fog that silently rolled over the mirror surface of the Potomac. Then, just as the sun was setting, its rays illuminated the plumes rising from the river into a glowing orange-violet plasma that evaporated with the waning light to reveal the stars.

The doors opened; or rather were barricaded with an official ‘Violation Notice,’ and the guests were defiantly ushered in. Once inside, they were met by two of Fiola Mare’s expert bartenders who prepared prohibition-era cocktails. Liquor was displayed in a variety of odd bottles labeled by hand and guests drank out of authentic 1920s style glassware. The waitstaff was dressed in flapper-fashion and speakeasy jazz echoed in the background. It was the perfect setting for honoring U-Boat Timepieces that are created in the U-Boat villa in the city of Lucca, just outside of Florence, Italy. Attendees had the opportunity to try on a private collection on hand from U-Boat and their local partner Swiss Time in Virginia.
